a casa da minha avó cheirava muito a fumo
Painting, 2026
Wood and soil on canvas
a casa da minha avó cheirava muito a fumo (2026) emerges from the encounter between an unresolved image from the past and the blackened earth of a burned forest. The earth, carrying the trace of fire and renewal, evoked the darkened walls of my grandmother’s fumeiro and a memory held first through smell and later through matter. Covering the old image with earth became a way of allowing one memory to bury and transform another. The work holds together loss, memory, and regeneration, giving material form to something that can no longer be recovered except through its traces.
